The messenger molecule NO leads to an enhanced cGMP production by stimulation of NO-sensitive guanylyl cyclase (GC) and thereby causes relaxation of smooth muscle and inhibition of platelet aggregation. In vascular smooth muscle, cGMP synthesis is al
