Objective. A case of ovarian fibroscarcoma associated with a benign cystic teratoma is described. Methods. A 32-year-old patient with an ovarian tumor detected by routine gynecological examination was referred to our hospital. In addition to histopat

We have examined the modulation of radiosensitivity by using caffeine in two human sarcoma cell lines both with a p53 mutation (US8-93 and LMS6-93). In both cell lines a strong irradiation-induced G2/M arrest was coupled with a low rate of apoptosis.

Background: The p53 protein is involved in the regulation of initiation of apoptosis. In vitro , p53-deficient cells do not respond to hypoxia with apoptosis as do p53-normal cells, and this may lead to a relative growth advantage of cells without a

In order to investigate genomic imbalances, comparative genomic hybridization was applied to 20 malignant fibrous histiocytomas. Deletions were rare and found mainly in chromosomes 2q33-35, 4q32-qter, 8p, 9p21-pter, 12p and 19p, whereas, over-represe

We investigated 20 malignant fibrous histiocytomas (MFHs) with the help of specific centromeric probes for chromosomes 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, 17 and 18. The results show a broad variation in the number of signals per nucleus. However, tumors can b

In dry etching processes—one of the sources of potential exposure to toxic wastes in the semiconductor industry—complex mixtures of inorganic and organic compounds arise from reactions between feed stock gases (BCl3/Cl2), top layers (aluminium, p

Plasma etching processes in the semiconductor industry are accompanied by the formation of waste products with potential toxicity. There is only limited knowledge about the occupational and environmental risks of these substances.
