Measurements of absorption coefficients for 25‐kc sound waves in air at low pressures using a pulse method are described. One‐millisecond pulses emitted by a ribbon loudspeaker in a large low‐pressure tank are detected by a condenser microphone

Experimental results have been obtained to show that sound will pass through a shock wave with small attenuation. The shock waves were produced by high‐speed bullets and the sound frequencies used were 480 cps and 5000 cps. Various baffles and filt

A phenomenon which affects the transmission of sound in air at reduced ambient pressures is the dependency of microphone and loudspeaker characteristics on the ambient pressure. The sensitivity of a transducer operated as a microphone usually increas
