Free neutron decay is a fundamental process in particle and nuclear physics. It is the prototype for nuclear beta decay and other semileptonic weak particle decays. Neutron decay played a key role in the formation of light elements in the early unive

Cyclotron radiation emission spectroscopy (CRES) is a modern technique for high-precision energy spectroscopy, in which the energy of a charged particle in a magnetic field is measured via the frequency of the emitted cyclotron radiation. The He6-CRE

We report a 0.08% measurement of the bound neutron scattering length of (4)He using neutron interferometry. The result is b = (3.0982 ± 0.0021[sta] ± 0.0014[syst]) fm. The corresponding free atomic scattering length is a = (2.4746 ± 0.0017[stat]

Free neutron beta decay is the simplest nuclear beta decay and the prototype charged-current semileptonic decay. It has some theoretical advantage over other nuclear decay systems in that there are no nuclear structure corrections, and it is the only

We carried out measurements of the excitation function for the reaction $^{45}\mathrm{Sc}$(p,2n${)}^{44}$Ti from 16 to 55 MeV. The results show a discrepancy with the only previous work on the subject. It was also possible to measure the cross sectio

We have studied the beta spectrum of {sup 14}C using a unique {sup 14}C-doped germanium detector. In 1991 an initial report was made of a distortion in the spectrum that could be explained by the emission of a 17-keV neutrino in approximately 1% of t

We measured thick-target yields of [sup 126,128,130]I from bombardments of natural Te targets with 15-, 30-, 45-, and 50-MeV protons, together with iodine production cross sections for 1.85- and 5.0-GeV protons. Using these data, we have estimated th
