An axial transformer was installed in the Proto S‐1/C spheromak device [Yamada et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 46, 188 (1981)] in order to study physics issues pertaining to sustained spheromak operation. An increase in both the toroidal plasma current an

Pegasus II is the upgraded version of Pegasus, a pulsed power machine used in the Los Alamos Above Ground Experiments (AGEX) program. The goal of the program is to produce an intense (>100 TW) source of soft x‐rays from the thermalization of the KE

We describe an experiment in progress which is designed to efficiently accumulate and store positrons from a radioactive source. The potential uses of such a collection of positrons is briefly discussed, as well as the limits of these accumulation an

An electrostatic trapping scheme is described which is designed to efficiently trap and store low‐energy positrons. Operation of the trap is described for both positrons and electrons. Several uses of such a collection of positrons are discussed as

The lifetime of positrons contained in an electrostatic trap is studied when small quantities of alkanes (i.e., hydrocarbon molecules of the form ${\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{n}}$${\mathrm{H}}_{2\mathrm{n}+2}$) are added. As n is increased from 4 to 16, th
