The spinel group minerals provide useful information regarding the geological environment in which the host rocks were formed, constituting excellent petrogenetic indicators, and guides in the search for mineral deposits of economic interest. In this

The Meseta de Somuncura is the largest intraplate mafic volcanic field of north Patagonia, Argentina, whose origin is the subject of an ongoing debate and remains uncertain. This contribution presents petrographic, geochemical, and isotopic character

The Virorco layered mafic-ultramafic intrusion is part of a belt that extends over 100 km from NE to SW in the Eastern Sierras Pampeanas of San Luis, Argentina. The rocks of this belt carry a Fe-Cu-Ni sulphide mineralization in veins and as dissemina

In the field of geology, as in many other fields, a common problem is the analysis of 2D sections. An example of this is the petrographic study of rock samples, i.e., the quantification of its mineral components and the percentages of each phase pres

Migmatitic paragneisses of the Valle Fertil–La Huerta Ranges at the Western margin of the Sierras Pampeanas are composed of garnet–cordierite–plagioclase–biotite–quartz-bearing units that experienced peak metamorphic conditions of ca. 800

Peridotite mantle xenoliths collected north of Gobernador Gregores, Patagonia, affected by cryptic and modal metasomatism bear melt pockets of unusually large size. Melt pockets consist of second generation olivine (ol2), clinopyroxene (cpx2) and spi
