In this paper, we describe a 13-year (2009–2022) dataset of legacy POP concentrations (DDTtot and sumPCB14 from 2016 isomers and congeners concentrations are also reported) in the planktonic crustaceans of Lake Maggiore (≥450 µm size fraction).

Interest in Stable Isotopes Analyses (SIA) is increasing in freshwater ecology to better clarify ecosystems’ functioning. By measuring carbon and nitrogen isotopic signatures, food sources and organism trophic levels can be tracked, providing quant

Despite DDT and PCB having been banned for about 40 years, they are still detectable in the environment. In the present research we specifically investigated the trophic transfer of these organochlorine contaminants (OC) through a pelagic food web of

Due to its peculiar geographical and morphological characteristics, Lake Como (Northern Italy) represents an interesting study-case for investigating the sub-basin scale circulation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that, despite being banned s

Crustacean zooplankton have an important role in transfer of matter, energy, and pollutants through lacustrine food webs. In the open-water, crustacean zooplankters are a major link between phytoplankton primary producers and zooplanktivorous fish. T

Increasing concern on biodiversity consequent to human impacts on the environment provides a basis for quantifying the role of organisms in transferring matter and energy through the trophic web, i.e. paths and processes responsible for ecosystem fun
