We report a measurement on the temporal response of a plasmonic antenna at the femtosecond time scale. The antenna consists of a square array of nanometer-size gold rods. We find that the far-field dispersion of light reflected from the plasmonic ant

This paper describes a simple technique for fabricating uniform arrays of metal and metal oxide nanotubes with controlled heights and diameters. The technique involves depositing material onto an anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane template using

This paper reviews recent work on device applications of optical antennas. Localized surface plasmon resonances of gold nanorod antennas resting on a silica glass substrate were modeled by finite difference time-domain simulations. A single gold nano

We have calculated the optically-induced force between coupled high-Q whispering gallery modes of microsphere resonators. Attractive and repulsive forces are found, depending whether the bi-sphere mode is symmetric or antisymmetric. The magnitude of

This paper reports a bidirectional fiber optic probe for the detection of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). One facet of the probe features an array of gold optical antennas designed to enhance Raman signals, while the other facet of the fibe

Conventional lithographic methods (e.g., electron-beam lithography, photolithography) are capable of producing high-resolution structures over large areas but are generally limited to large (1 cm(2)) planar substrates. Incorporation of these features

This work demonstrates two fiber optic devices: one device detects in situ surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) from remote analytes, and the other is designed to perform three-dimensional trapping of small particles.

We investigate coupling effects in arrays of gold nanorods, studying both strongly and weakly coupled regimes, with the ultimate goal of incorporating these arrays onto a compact fiber device.

Resonantly excited optical antennas are studied with near-field optical microscopy. The locally enhanced fields associated with antenna resonances are imaged by using a sharp metallic tip acting as a local scattering center.
