The presence of foreign DNA in the cytosol of mammalian cells elicits a potent antiviral interferon response. Recently, cytosolic DNA was proposed to induce the synthesis of cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP) upon binding to an enzyme called cGAMP synthase (cGAS

Bacterial contact-dependent growth inhibition (CDI) is mediated by the CdiA/CdiB family of two-partner secretion proteins. Each CdiA protein exhibits a distinct growth inhibition activity, which resides in the polymorphic C-terminal region (CdiA-CT).

Bacterial contact-dependent growth inhibition (CDI) is mediated by the CdiB/CdiA family of two-partner secretion proteins. CdiA effector proteins are exported onto the surface of CDI+ inhibitor cells, where they interact with susceptible bacteria and

Contact-dependent growth inhibition (CDI), first described in Escherichia coli five years ago, is a mechanism by which cell-to-cell contact inhibits the growth of bacterial cells that do not have this system. CDI is mediated by the two-partner secret

Mutations in ribosomal proteins L4 and L22 confer resistance to erythromycin and other macrolide antibiotics in a variety of bacteria. L4 and L22 have elongated loops whose tips converge in the peptide exit tunnel near the macrolide-binding site, and

During protein synthesis, the ribosome translates the genetic information encoded within messenger RNAs into defined amino acid sequences. Transfer RNAs (tRNAs) are crucial adaptor molecules in this process, delivering amino acid residues to the ribo

The λ phage Red proteins greatly enhance homologous recombination in Escherichia coli. Red-mediated recombination or "recombineering" can be used to construct targeted gene deletions as well as to introduce point mutations into the genome. Here, we
