Abstract: The present study explores conditions to activate the carboxyl group before the coupling of C-terrninal amino acid with Trimethylsilyl -isothiocyanate (TMS-ITC). Protected amino acids and different peptides were used as model and 1,3'-Dicyc

Cells die through a programmed process or accidental death, know as apoptosis or necrosis, respectively. Bothrops jararaca is a snake whose venom inhibits the growth of Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigote forms causing mitochondrion swelling and cell deat

Bothrops jararaca venom induces programmed cell death in epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi. Here we fractionated the venom and observed that the anti-T. cruzi activity was associated with fractions that present L-amino acid oxidase (L-AAO) activity.

Phospholipases A(2) (PLA(2)s), of molecular mass 13-15kDa, are commonly isolated from snake venom. Two myotoxins with PLA(2) activity, BaPLA(2)I and BaPLA(2)III, with estimated molecular masses of 15kDa were isolated from the venom of Bothrops atrox

Canatoxin is a toxic protein from Canavalia ensiformis seeds, lethal to mice (LD50 = 2mg/kg) and insects. Further characterization of canatoxin showed that its main native form (184kDa) is a non-covalently linked dimer of a 95kDa polypeptide containi

Viperine and crotaline snake venoms contain one or more hemorrhagic metalloproteinases called hemorrhagins. The most potent hemorrhagins belong to P-III class and have, in adition to the protease domain, a disintegrin-like and a cysteine-rich domains

The chloroplast H+-ATPase (CF0F1) was purified from spinach chloroplasts and studied both in the soluble state and after reconstitution into asolectin liposomes. Hydrolysis of ATP and of p-nitrophenylphosphate (p-NPP) catalysed by CF0F1 was investiga
