The experimental program of the Princeton Beta Experiment‐Modified (PBX‐M) tokamak [Phys. Fluids B2, 1271 (1990)] is directed toward tailoring plasma profiles to achieve greater stability and confinement and to gain access to the second stability

Lower hybrid (LH) waves have the attractive property of damping strongly via electron Landau resonance on relatively fast tail electrons at (2.5-3)xv{sub te}, where v{sub te} {identical_to} (2T{sub e}/m{sub e}){sup 1/2} is the electron thermal speed.

This paper describes physics research on wave‐plasma interactions in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) and the lower hybrid range of frequencies (LHRF) that takes advantage of advances in large scale computation as well as applied mathe

An idea for directly heating the thermal ion population with radio frequency waves at frequencies below the ion cyclotron frequency is proposed. This method would increase fusion efficiency by avoiding the lossy electron channel

The two-dimensional mm-wave imaging reflectometer (MIR) on DIII-D is a multi-faceted device for diagnosing electron density fluctuations in fusion plasmas. Its multi-channel, multi-frequency capabilities and high sensitivity permit visualization and

For the interpretation of correlation reflectometry data a fast two-dimensional full wave code has been developed in which realistic plasma geometries are used. Results of this code are compared with experiments and turbulence correlation lengths and

The correlation between O-mode and X-mode reflectometer signals is studied with a 1D and 2D reflectometer model in order to explore its feasibilities as a q-profile diagnostic. It was found that 2D effects and finite fluctuation levels both decrease
