Aims. We analyse electron densities and filling factors of the diffuse ionized gas (DIG) in the Solar neighbourhood. Methods. We have combined dispersion measures and emission measures towards 38 pulsars at distances known to better than 50%, from wh

Radio astronomy has seen major advances in both instrumentation and scientific discovery during the last three years. This report is not encyclopedic but is intended to show the breadth of activity in the field. Division X is a technique-based divisi

We present a survey of the total and linearly polarized radio continuum emission of the Andromeda galaxy at 20 cm wavelength with the VLA-D array. 7 elds were observed with 45 00 angular resolution. The miss- ing large-scale total emission observed w

Interstellar magnetic fields are known to be a constraint for star formation, but their influence on the formation of spiral structures and the evolution of galaxies is generally neglected. Structure, strength and degree of uniformity of interstellar

There have been many advances in radio astronomy during the last three years, and a sample of these are highlighted in the following Report. The coverage of all facets of radio astronomy is certainly not uniform, because much of the text has been pro

At the centre of M31 the nonthermal spectral index between λ20 cm and λ6 cm is −0.2. It slowly decreases along the southern arm and the northern filaments visible in Hα, but perpendicular to these features it increases much faster. The magnetic
