Quantifying the spread of >600 °C pyroclastic flows (more broadly termed pyroclastic density currents—PDCs) is important because they regularly cause major volcanic catastrophes. Far from volcanic flanks, non-welded PDC deposits can be difficult t

Nearly three decades ago paleomagnetists suggested that there existed a clear link between latitude dependence of geomagnetic paleosecular variation (PSV) and reversal frequency. Here we compare the latitude behavior of PSV for the Cretaceous Normal

Summary Geophysical surveys are efficient ways to obtain information on subsurface structures. One of the geophysical technique used is the magnetic method, useful to detect shallow structures and changes in magnetization due to several processes, su

We present new paleomagnetic and geochemical data from a suite of the similar to 1144-Ma ultramafic lamprophyre dikes that outcrop in the Canadian Shield northeast of Lake Superior (Ontario, Canada). Nineteen of 22 sampled dikes yielded consistent ch

The global paleointensity database for 65–200 Ma was analyzed using a modified suite of paleointensity quality criteria (QPI) such that the likely reliability of measurements is assessed objectively and as consistently as possible across the divers

Metamorphic core complexes (MCCs) have been attributed to slip on long-lived detachment faults in extensional environments. At the surface, such faults are typically shallow dipping (

The Earth’s inner core grows by the freezing of liquid iron at its surface. The point in history at which this process initiated marks a step-change in the thermal evolution of the planet. Recent computational and experimental studies1,2,3,4,5 have

Here we report new paleomagnetic and geochronologic results from the Dharwar craton (south India) from 2.37 to 1.88 Ga. The presence of a ∼85,000 km2 radiating dyke swarm with a fanning angle of 65° is confirmed within Peninsular India at 1.88 Ga.
