N-serve (2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)pyridine) was tested as an inhibitor of nitrification of ammonium or urea in sand cultures. Nitrification was reduced but not prevented by N-Serve present at between 5 and 20 ppm in solution or by weight of sand.

Spinach plants were grown for 8 weeks in sand culture with either complete nutrient containing molybdate (0.05 p.p.m.) or molybdenum-free nutrient containing tungstate (1 p.p.m.). Nitrate reductase and its tungsten analogue were extracted and purifie

The inactivation of nitrate reductase in the leaves and roots of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Mazurka) during and after extracting was investigated. At 0 °C in the absence of casein, 25 per cent of 'total', i.e. maximal in vitro , nitrate reductas

During the past few years the use of teletypewriters has become quite extensive in the Bell System. Simpler and cheaper machines have recently been made available for meeting the simpler service requirements and attachments have been designed to prov

Induction of nitrate reductase (EC 1.6.6.1) activity was measured in Paul's Scarlet rose cell suspensions cultured in media containing nitrate (NO 3 - ) or urea (U) as nitrogen source, and with (+Mo) or without molybdenum (-Mo). There was a lag of 30

Nitrate and nitrite reductases were both induced by adding three concentrations of nitrate to the nutrient supply of nitrate-starved barley seedlings. Enzyme induction was not proportional to the amount of nitrate introduced. Glutamine synthetase als
