A strong optical Stark effect has been observed in (6,5) semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes by femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. The response is characterized by an instantaneous blueshift of the excitonic resonance upon application of

Wrapping of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) was found to be sequence-dependent. A systematic search of the ssDNA library selected a sequence d(GT)n, n = 10 to 45 that self-assembles into a helical structure around individual na

Carbon nanotubes are man-made one-dimensional carbon crystals with different diameters and chiralities. Owing to their superb mechanical and electrical properties, many potential applications have been proposed for them. However, polydispersity and p

Time-resolved anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy has been applied to probe the dynamics of optical phonons created in single-walled carbon nanotubes by femtosecond laser excitation. From measurement of the decay of the anti-Stokes Raman signal in semicon

We have measured an optical Stark effect in semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes. Upon application of a non-resonant pump beam, we observe an instantaneous blue shift in the optical resonances that scales linearly with pump intensity.

Two liquid chromatography techniques for single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) separation, size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), and ion-exchange chromatography (IEX) are combined to obtain small diameter semiconducting SWNTs with defined length and ch

A series of nondegenerate pump-probe measurements were carried out on a DNA-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) sample that is enriched with the (6,5) species. The pump pulse excites SWNTs at $\ensuremath{\sim}1.567\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}

By using a sample of DNA-wrapped single-wall carbon nanotubes strongly enriched in the $(6,5)$ nanotube, photoluminescence emissions observed at special excitation energy values were identified with specific mechanisms of phonon-assisted excitonic ab
