In a previous report (Emery, Lucas and Williams, 1960) a transparent chamber used for irradiating conscious patients under increased oxygen pressure was described. Patients withstood the treatment well with no side effects, there being no barotrauma.

The half-life of I131 has been determined as 8·02 ± 0·03 days. Exposed sources of sodium iodide decay more rapidly owing to loss of active material, but this effect is not observed when the iodide is precipitated with silver nitrate.
