A 65-year-old patient with systemic lupus erythematodes (SLE) developed fever and gonarthritis whilst taking prednisone and hydrochloroquine. Salmonella typhimurium, sensitive to amoxicillin, was grown in cultures of synovial fluid, blood and urine.
