The effect of pulse propagation on the lineshape in a two-dimensional photon echo spectrum is investigated using the coupled Maxwell Bloch equations. Reshaping of excitation and signal pulses due to propagation results in broadening of peak profiles.

The effect of pulse propagation on the two-dimensional photon echo (2DPE) spectrum of multilevel systems is investigated using a perturbative method. At high optical densities (OD) peak profiles are broadened asymmetrically, in most cases more strong

This paper examines the parallels between magnetic resonance and optical spectroscopy, with the goal of determining to what extent the benefits of 2DNMR might be extended into the optical regime. Precise optical analogues of the simplest 2DNMR sequen

Multiphoton microscopy (MPM) is an imaging technique that employs signals, such as fluorescence, generated by a multiphoton absorption (MPA) process as its contrast mechanism. Compared to other fluorescence microscopy techniques, MPM often has a high

Summary form only given. We present a direct method to detect weak two-photon absorption (TPA) signals. As a proof of principle, we have measured the TPA cross section /spl delta/ for rhodamine 6G (R6G) in methanol and obtained a value which agrees w

Nonlinear pulse characterization techniques such as FROG and SPIDER1,2 have a large advantage over linear techniques (such as spectral interferometry3) in that they can be self-referenced, i.e. no well-characterized reference pulse is needed to obtai

Direct optical analogs of (two-dimensional) NMR experiments require detection of the phase of a coherence induced by a (series of) laser pulses, which is difficult [1]. Recently it was demonstrated that by using a phase coherent pulse pair created by

Ultrashort-pulse characterization techniques, such as the numerous variants of frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) and spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction, fail to fully determine the relative phases of well-se
