DNA barcoding has rapidly become a useful complementary tool in floristic investigations particularly for identifying specimens that lack diagnostic characters. Here, we assess the capability of three DNA barcode markers (chloroplast rpoB, accD and n

Several past and recent climatic and geological events have greatly influenced the current distribution of coastal species around the Mediterranean Basin. As a consequence, the reconstruction of the distributional history of these species is challeng

In various crops, genetic bottlenecks occurring through domestication can limit crop resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses. In the present study, we investigated nucleotide diversity in tomato chloroplast genome through sequencing seven plastomes

Sexually deceptive orchids of the genus Ophrys may rapidly evolve by adaptation to pollinators. However, understanding of the genetic basis of potential changes and patterns of relationships is hampered by a lack of genomic information. We report the

An increased divergence in characters between species in secondary contact can be shaped by selection against competition for a common resource (ecological character displacement, ECD) or against maladapted hybridization (reproductive character displ

Telipogon peruvianus is a highly restricted, sexually deceptive, Neotropical orchid species, endemic to the southern Peruvian Andes. It is only known from two localities, which are affected by anthropogenic disturbance. Here, we investigated whether

New populations of endangered plants may establish outside of protected areas if a suitable habitat becomes available. However, it is unclear whether such populations are genetically uniform, as a result of a founder effect, or whether they contain g

The endangered orchid Anacamptis robusta is a narrowly endemic species restricted to fragmented marsh habitats on Majorca, Spain. To investigate the effects of habitat fragmentation, we quantified genetic diversity and levels of seed exchange among a
