Computers are evolving from computational tools to collaborative agents through the emergence of natural, speech-driven interfaces. However, relying on speech alone is a limitation; gesture and other non-verbal aspects of communication also play a vi

State of the art unimodal dialogue agents lack some core aspects of peer-to-peer communication—the nonverbal and visual cues that are a fundamental aspect of human interaction. To facilitate true peer-to-peer communication with a computer, we prese

Recurrent Neural Networks are a state of the art method for modeling sequential data. Unfortunately, the practice of RNNs is ahead of the theory. We lack any method for summarizing or analyzing what a network has learned, once it’s trained. This pa

Advances in artificial intelligence are fundamentally changing how we relate to machines. We used to treat computers as tools, but now we expect them to be agents, and increasingly our instinct is to treat them like peers. This paper is an exploratio
