We prepared hybrid fibers by filling all-silica capillaries and photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with arsenic chalcogenide glasses. The filling technology is described in detail and a theoretical model for the prediction of the filling length in combin

Today fiber Bragg gratings are commonly used in sensing technology as well as in telecommunications. Numerous requirements must be satisfied for their application as a sensor such as the number of sensors per system, the measurement resolution and re

We demonstrate three-level laser operation at 976 nm of a large-core Yb-doped aluminosilicate fiber, which is fabricated by powder-sinter technology and shows a very homogeneous refractive index profile. The investigated fiber has a core diameter of

We report on a Yb-doped large-core fiber laser at 976 nm prepared by powder-sinter technology. Wavelength-locked single-mode operation is achieved with 10 W out of a standard single-mode fiber.
A new device for improving the free-space optical monitoring and coupling into a single mode fiber is proposed. It consists of a fiber taper, which can easily be drawn from a suitable fiber with large core radius. The taper acts as a mode filter disc

We present results for combining fiber lasers with a total average power of 5.1kW into a 50µm output fiber. The heating of the free-standing 7×1 glass structure is only 12K/kW.

Silica based microstructured holey fibers offer the possibility for filling with unconventional fiber materials. Of special interest are chalcogenide glasses due to their high refractive index and their nonlinear optical properties. We demonstrate tw

In this paper we present a method for the selective blocking and subsequent filling of metals into photonic crystal fibers. We derive a model which can predict the necessary duration of the filling process. With a melt and pump procedure we obtain si
