We use the gluing construction introduced by Jia Huang to explore the rings of invariants for a range of modular representations. We construct generating sets for the rings of invariants of the maximal parabolic subgroups of a finite symplectic group

Let ${\mathbb{F}_{q}}$ be the finite field of order $q$. Let $G$ be one of the three groups ${\rm GL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$, ${\rm SL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ or ${\rm U}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ and let $W$ be the standard $n$-dimensional representation of $G$. For

Suppose $\mathbb{F}$ is a field of prime characteristic $p$ and $E$ is a finite subgroup of the additive group $(\mathbb{F},+)$. Then $E$ is an elementary abelian $p$-group. We consider two such subgroups, say $E$ and $E'$, to be equivalent if there

We consider ideals in a polynomial ring that are generated by regular sequences of homogeneous polynomials and are stable under the action of the symmetric group permuting the variables. In previous work, we determined the possible isomorphism types

Consider a finite dimensional vector space V over a finite field F q . We give a minimal generating set for the ring of invariants F q [ V ⊕ V ⁎ ] GL ( V ) , and show that this ring is a Gorenstein ring but is not a complete intersection. These r

We prove that the coindex of the box complex B(H) of a graph H can be measured by the generalised Mycielski graphs which admit a homomorphism to H. As a consequence, we exhibit for every graph H a system of linear equations, solvable in polynomial ti

We describe the graded characters and Hilbert functions of certain graded artinian Gorenstein quotients of the polynomial ring which are also representations of the symmetric group. Specifically, we look at those algebras whose socles are trivial rep
This volume includes the proceedings of a workshop on Invariant Theory held at Queen's University (Ontario). The workshop was part of the theme year held under the auspices of the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) in Montreal. The gathering b

We study the ring of invariants for a finite dimensional representation V of the group C2 of order 2 in characteristic 2. Let σ denote a generator of C2 and {x1,y1,…,xm,ym} a basis of V⁎. Then σ(xi)=xi, and σ(yi)=yi+xi. To our knowledge, this
