Primary alkyl, benzyl, and heteroarylamines are converted both by pentaphenyl- and 2,4,6-triphenyl-pyrylium bromides into the corresponding pyridinium bromides. Pyrolysis of the triphenyl derivatives affords a convenient synthesis of alkyl and benzyl
