We demonstrate robust partially-automated characterization of evanescent coupling between a SNAP microresonator and a tapered optical fiber, and report coupling parameter profiles for two axial series along the taper’s longitudinal axis.

We report local characterization of coupling between elongated bottle microresonators and tapered-fiber waveguides with small diameter relative to the characteristic length of resonator modes, towards quantum-compatible resonant optical microdevices.

Coupling between optical microresonators and waveguides is a critical characteristic of resonant photonic devices with complex behavior that is not well understood. When the characteristic variation length of the microresonator modes is much larger t

We present a novel method based on optical fibre tapering for fabrication of Surface Nanoscale Axial Photonics (SNAP) devices with parabolic profiles with an unprecedentedly large number of axial eigenmodes. Tapering of a commercial 125 μm single-mo

We show that light circulating in a silica microcapillary can be fully localized by evanescent coupling to a water droplet forming a high Q-factor microresonator. The discovered phenomenon suggests an advanced method for microfluidics sensing.

Photonic time-frequency entanglement is a promising resource for quantum information processing technologies. We investigate swapping of continuous-variable entanglement in the time-frequency degree of freedom using three-wave mixing in the low-gain

We introduce a new method, called entangled photon-pair two-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy (EPP-2DFS), to sensitively probe the nonlinear electronic response of molecular systems. The method incorporates a separated two-photon ('Franson') inte

In quantum optics experiments, heralding, a form of conditional state preparation, is a useful tool for creating photon-number states from nonlinear optical sources for quantum-information science experiments. Heralding occurs when one photon from a

Interaction of spin and intrinsic orbital angular momentum of light is observed, as evidenced by length-dependent rotations of both spatial patterns and optical polarization in a cylindrically-symmetric isotropic optical fiber. Such rotations occur i
