A comparative analysis of AgGaSe

We report detailed study of temporal and spatial dynamics of air plasma produced by a focused to 1012 W/cm2 CO2 laser. A record ~109 cm/s velocity of electron avalanche expansion is measured with picosecond resolution.

We report supercontinuum generation in a Te crystal pumped by picosecond CO2 laser pulses at intensities up to 20 GW/cm2. The effective nonlinear refractive index of Te is estimated to be 30x that of GaAs.

We report efficient second harmonic generation of picosecond CO2 laser pulses at intensities up to 50 GW/cm2 in GaSe, AgGaSe2, CdGeAs2, and Te. External energy conversion efficiency can reach 20% in AgGaSe2.

We measure nonlinear absorption in semiconductors using nanosecond and picosecond CO2 laser pulses. Absorption strength scales inversely with band gap energy. Effective absorption coefficients in n-Ge are unchanged over intensities from 0.1-2 GW/cm2.
