We consider the finite alphabet phase retrieval problem: recovering a signal whose entries lie in a small alphabet of possible values from its Fourier magnitudes. This problem arises in the celebrated technology of X-ray crystallography to determine

Phase retrieval refers to recovering a signal from its Fourier magnitude. This problem arises naturally in many scientific applications, such as ultra-short laser pulse characterization and diffraction imaging. Unfortunately, phase retrieval is ill-p

We study the Fulton-Macpherson operational Chow rings of good moduli spaces of properly stable, smooth, Artin stacks. Such spaces are \'etale locally isomorphic to geometric invariant theory quotients of affine schemes, and are therefore natural exte

We study the Fulton-Macpherson Chow cohomology of affine toric varieties. In particular, we prove that the Chow cohomology vanishes in positive degree. We prove an analogous result for the operational $K$-theory defined by Anderson and Payne.

The purpose of this article is to discuss recent advances in the growing field of phase retrieval, and to publicize open problems that we believe will be of interest to mathematicians in general, and algebraists in particular.

We present a complete generalization of Kirwan's partial desingularization theorem on quotients of smooth varieties. Precisely, we prove that if $\mathcal{X}$ is an irreducible Artin stack with stable good moduli space $\mathcal{X} \to X$, then there
We study the dihedral multi-reference alignment problem of estimating the orbit of a signal from multiple noisy observations of the signal, acted on by random elements of the dihedral group. We show that if the group elements are drawn from a generic

The q-th order spectrum is a polynomial of degree q in the entries of a signal x ∈ C N , which is invariant under circular shifts of the signal. For q ≥ 3 , this polynomial determines the signal uniquely, up to a circular shift, and is called a h

Motivated by the X-ray crystallography technology to determine the atomic structure of biological molecules, we study the crystallographic phase retrieval problem, arguably the leading and hardest phase retrieval setup. This problem entails recoverin
