(S)-α-(2-aminoethyl)-methionine 9 ((s)-2,4-diamino-2-(3-thiabutyl)-butanoic acid) is synthesized in three steps from 1-benzoyl-2-tert--butyl-5-(3-thiabutryl)-oxazolidin-4-one. Neighboring group reactions of peptide derivatives of 9 are described.

The efficiencies of O,N-acyl transfer are reported for mixed disulfides from title compounds and L-Cys. EM values in the range of 1-6 M are observed for intramolecular acyl transfer with L-Cys disulfides from 7-acyloxy-2-thiomethylbenzofurans.

The mixed disulfides from (R,S)-l-(Cbz-L-alanyloxy)-9-mercapto-phenoxatiin-10-sulfoxide and H-L-Cys-OMe undergo O,N-acyl transfer in DMSO at 23°C with rate constants of 7.0 h−1 and 0.048 h−1, and a rate ratio of 146; EM values of 0.2 M and 0.001

Synthesis of 2,8-diaminoepindolidione (2,8-diaminodibenzo [b,g] [1,5] naphthyridine-6,12(5,11H)-dione) in 19% yield from p-nitroaniline is reported, as well as further conversion to 2,8-bis(Boc-L-Pro-Xxx) epindolidione (Xxx=Gly, D-Ala) and then to 2,
