The use of integrated waveguides with a limited interaction region in contact with a sensitive medium presents great potentialities for the development of optical sensors. In this paper, we describe a new fabrication procese of ion-exchange waveguide

A new fabrication process of ion‐exchange waveguides well suited for integrated‐sensor applications is presented. The process consists in burying each extremity of the waveguide few microns below the surface while its central region is located at

Glass ion exchange is an attractive method for the fabrication of integrated optical components. In this article the possibility of making a single mode glass ion exchanged interferometer specially designed for stabilisation of a laser diode (LD) is

We describe a Faraday effect current sensor whose tranducer is made of a glass substrate with ion-exchanged waveguides. A compensation scheme for the linear birefringence has been implemented and tested on an industrial prototype.

Integrated optics evanescent wave sensors suffer from attenuation losses and reduced contrast ratio when the sensing layer index is too close to the waveguide index. This is attributed to an increase in mode mismatch at inner interfaces of the device

Channel waveguides are imaged by a photon-scanning tunneling microscope (PSTM). The polarization of the light and its orientation with respect to the guide axis are shown to be very important parameters in the analysis of the images of such samples.

The theorical possibility of realizing an integrated electrooptic (EO) modulator using a grating to incite resonantly the guided modes of a multilayer structure, have been studied by Reinisch et al. 1). This new type of modulator, using the Pockels e

A new type of electrooptic modulator is presented. The modulation of optical waves is obtained by variation of one of the parameters ruling the excitation conditions of a guided mode during the coupling of an optical beam into a planar structure. The
