Abstract Radioactivity was recently discovered as a source of decoherence and correlated errors for the real-world implementation of superconducting quantum processors. In this work, we measure levels of radioactivity present in a typical laboratory

An optimal control strategy based on Two-Point-Multirate Controllers (TPMRCs), is used to design a desirable excitation controller of a hydrogenerator system, in order to enhance its dynamic stability characteristics. In the TPMRCs based scheme, the

An optimal excitation controller design based on multirate-output controllers (MROCs) having a multirate sampling mechanismwith different sampling period in each measured output of the system is presented. The proposed H∞ -control techniqueis appli

A merged-element transmon (MET) device based on silicon (Si) fins is proposed, and the first steps to form such a “FinMET” are demonstrated. This new application of fin technology capitalizes on the anisotropic etch of Si(111) relative to Si(110)

Advanced solid-state quantum bits (qubits) are likely to require a variety of dielectrics for wiring crossovers, substrates, and Josephson junctions. Microwave superconducting resonators are an excellent tool for measuring the internal dielectric los

It has been known since the early days of quantum mechanics that hyperbolic secant pulses possess the unique property that they can perform cyclic evolution on two-level quantum systems independently of the pulse detuning. More recently, it was reali

We are developing arrays of kinetic inductance detectors for sub-millimeter polarimetry that will be deployed on the BLAST balloon-borne instrument. The array is feedhorn-coupled, and each pixel contains two lumped-element kinetic inductance detector

The sensitivity of microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) using dissipation readout is limited by the noise temperature of the cryogenic amplifier, usually a HEMT with $$T_n \sim $$ 5 K. A lower noise amplifier is required to improve NEP and

Gadolinium thin films approximately 100 A thick have been grown epitaxially on a Y(0001) substrate. A threefold characterization has been performed. The surface structural analyses of the yttrium substrate and the gadolinium films were performed usin
