Knowing which species traits may confer resilience to human-mediated stressors will help predict future impacts on biodiversity. Here, Mellin et al. show that large bodied fish with small geographic ranges are disproportionately affected by the negat

The effects of gonadectomy, photoperiod and ovarian steroid replacement on plasma beta-endorphin concentrations were studied in 2 experiments using mature ewes. In Experiment 1 ovariectomy resulted in an increased plasma beta-endorphin concentration.

Changes in plasma cortisol and B-endorphin concentrations and behaviour in sheep subjected to a change in environment have been studied. Three male and three female sheep were transferred from pasture to indoor crates for a 9-week period. Behaviour w

The objective of this study was to examine the time course of changes in plasma β-endorphin and Cortisol in sheep transferred to a new environment. Three ewes and three wethers were transferred from pasture to indoor crates for a nine-week period. B

The milk and body temperatures of 15 cows were monitored twice daily at milking times, over a total of 30 oestrous periods. The best determination of oestrus was based on a temperature rise of at least 0.2 degree C over the corresponding mean tempera

Vaginal and milk temperatures were measured at each milking in 15 post-partum Friesian cows showing recurrent oestrous cycles for a total of 33 oestruses. A significant increase (P less than 0.001) in both vaginal and milk temperature of 0.29 +/- 0.0

The effects of the routine stressful stimuli of handling, transport and slaughter on the plasma concentrations of cortisol and β-endorphin have been studied in lambs. Blood samples were obtained from group 1 lambs after rounding up, after transport
