Magnetic dipole transitions between the fine structure levels (3d4) 5D3–5D2 of titanium-like silver and tin have been observed as emission lines from the Oxford electron beam ion trap (EBIT). The precision of the measurement system is validated by

Characteristic radiation is used extensively in most high-accuracy x-ray experiments as a standard for calibration, both in laboratory physics and in astrophysics. $K\ensuremath{\alpha}$ and $K\ensuremath{\beta}$ radiations have complex asymmetric st

Using a 14C16O2 laser the 2s1/2-2p3/2 (fine structure — Lamb shift) transition has been induced in 14N6+ ions trapped in an electron beam ion trap. Prospects for a measurement of the Lamb shift in hydrogen-like nitrogen are discussed.

Transition metals have K? and K? characteristic radiation possessing complex asymmetric spectral profiles. Instrumental broadening normally encountered in x-ray experiments shifts features of profiles used for calibration, such as peak energy, by man
