The H-terminated surface of diamond when activated with NO2 produces a surface conduction layer that has been used to make FETs. Variations in processing can significantly affect this conduction layer. This article discusses the effect of diamond sur

We have investigated the driven dynamics of a superconducting flux qubit that is tunably coupled to a microwave resonator. We find that the qubit experiences an oscillating field mediated by off-resonant driving of the resonator, leading to strong mo

Recent experiments have demonstrated that low-jitter mode locked lasers enable unprecedented high-resolution high-speed analog to digital conversion. That capability may be leveraged to bring spectral efficiency of optical transport systems to its Sh

CLEO:2011 - Laser Applications to Photonic Applications.
We demonstrate two fully-functional channels of a real-time photonic ADC using mostly CMOS-compatible devices to optically sample and electronically digitize a 10-GHz RF signal with 37.9 dB SNR (6.0 ENOB) with a 1 GHz optical pulse train.

Sampling rates of high-performance electronic analog-to-digital converters (ADC) are fundamentally limited by the timing jitter of the electronic clock. This limit is overcome in photonic ADC’s by taking advantage of the ultra-low timing jitter of

A broadband, Mach-Zehnder-interferometer based silicon optical modulator is demonstrated, with an electrical bandwidth of 26 GHz and V(pi)L of 4 V.cm. The design of this modulator does not require epitaxial overgrowth and is therefore simpler to fabr

A high-speed silicon optical modulator has been demonstrated which can operate either in forward bias using carrier injection, or in reverse bias using carrier depletion. In forward bias, the device requires less than 10 mW of drive power, but has a
