We present a theoretical model for gain and noise saturation in quantum dash (QDash) semiconductor optical amplifiers. The model is based on the density matrix formalism and addresses static saturation spectra. The calculations are confirmed by a ser

We report spectrally resolved dynamical properties of 1550nm quantum-dash lasers. The dynamics are governed by the inhomogeneous broadening of the gain medium and by wavelength-dependent carrier capture and escape rates.

The cross-saturation dynamics of quantum-dash optical amplifiers were investigated and quantified in terms of spectral placement and modulation rate. The results point to the unique properties of these quantum wire like gain media.

Saturation spectra of quantum dash optical amplifiers operating at 1550 nm were modeled in detail properly taking into account inhomogeneous gain and fast response time. Experimental results which confirm the mode are also presented.

Semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) based on nanostructure gain media such as quantum dots (QD) and quantum dashes (QDASH) have several basic characteristics which offer significant performance improvements over commonly used quantum well (QW) or

We address basic issues related to the dynamical properties of low dimensionality semiconductor lasers. We concentrate on quantum dash lasers but many of the properties hold, with very few changes, to quantum dot lasers. We formulate a self consisten

Laterally coupled DFB lasers based on quantum dashes were fabricated by FIB lithography. CW-powers above 30 mW, high SMSRs, a modulation bandwidth of 7.6 GHz and singlemode emission from 1.5 to 1.9 μm were demonstrated. (2 pages)

We describe time-resolved chirp measurements in InAs∕InP quantum-dash optical amplifiers operating at 1550 nm. We highlight the roles of gain saturation and of the saturating pulse duration relative to the gain recovery time. Using 10Gbit∕s data,
