We present a detailed experimental and theoretical study, showing that a novel nonzero dispersion-shifted fiber with negative dispersion enhances the capabilities of metropolitan area optical systems, while at the same time, reducing the system cost

Recently, stimulated Brillouin scattering in a forward direction (FSBS) in a dual-mode single-core optical fiber was reported by the authors (see Electron Lett., vol.26 p.1195-6, 1990). Frequency shifts on the order of 17 MHz were seen in fiber suppo
A novel tunable microwave signal generation at a frequency of approximately 12 GHz based on mixing the output beam from an SBS ring resonator laser with the original pump source has been demonstrated. The gain profile of the SBS laser was measured to

There has been a recent growth of interest in dual-moded (DM) optical fibers for a variety of nonlinear switching and modulation schemes.1-3We report here what we believe to be the first observation of forward-stimulated Brillouin scatter (FSBS) betw

Observation of intermodal forward stimulated Brillouin scattering at 514.5 nm in dual-mode optical fibres is reported. The FSBS signal is shifted by 16.6 MHz and, unlike in normal background SBS, does not depend significantly on the laser linewidth.

The Weybridge strain of Babesia divergens became less virulent after 18 months in culture and was believed to be attenuated. Inoculations with the attenuated line using as many as 5 x 10(8) infected erythrocytes failed to raise a normal infection in

SUMMARYA monoclonal antibody-producing hybridoma cell line has been raised against merozoites ofBabesia divergens. This antibody is strongly reactive against merozoites in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and is also positive in an indire

Immunogens derived from microaerophilous stationary phase (MASP) cultures of Babesia divergens grown in bovine erythrocytes were used to inoculate the laboratory host of B. divergens, the Mongolian gerbil, Meriones unguiculatus. Animals inoculated su
