A high-intensity laser irradiating a few-μm solid foil will accelerate ions from the bulk of the target as well as protons from a surface contaminant layer. Experimental measurements of ion spectra using the OMEGA EP laser (0.25–1 kJ, 10 ps) show,

Laser-driven shock experiments were performed on fcc metals, aluminum and invar, at a range of initial temperatures from approximately 120-800 K to explore the effect of initial temperature on dynamic strength properties at strain rates reaching up t

Carbon is the fourth-most prevalent element in the Universe and essential for all known life. In the elemental form it is found in multiple allotropes, including graphite, diamond and fullerenes, and it has long been predicted that even more structur

We present quartz and molybdenum single-shock Hugoniot data to 62 Mbar and 120 Mbar, respectively. Quartz and molybdenum are attractive standard materials for Hugoniot equation-of-state impedance-matching studies. Quartz is advantageous because a ref
