For a connected semisimple group G over the field of real numbers ℝ, using a method of Onishchik and Vinberg, we compute the first Galois cohomology set H1(ℝ;G) in terms of Kac labelings of the affine Dynkin diagram of G.

A differential characteristic class of a geometric quantity (e.g., Riemannian or Kahler metric, connection, etc.) on a smooth manifold is a closed differential form whose components are expressed in the components of the given geometric quantity and

Natural algebraic differential operations on geometric quantities on smooth manifolds are considered. A method for the investigation and classification of such operations is described, the method of IT-reduction. With it the investigation of natural

We examine the structure of the cotangent bundle $T^{*}X$ of an algebraic variety $X$ acted on by a reductive group $G$ from the viewpoint of equivariant symplectic geometry. In particular, we construct an equivariant symplectic covering of $T^{*}X$

The complexity of a homogeneous space G/H under a reductive group G is by definition the codimension of general orbits in G/H of a Borel subgroup B\subseteq G. We give a representation-theoretic interpretation of this number as the exponent of growth

LetG be a reductive algebraic group and letH be a reductive subgroup ofG. We describe all pairs (G, H) such that, for any affineG-varietyX with a denseG-orbit isomorphic toG/H, the number ofG-orbits inX is finite.

We study Cartier divisors on normal varieties with the action of a reductive groupG. We give criteria for a divisor to be Cartier, globally generated and ample, and apply them to a study of the local structure and the intersection theory of aG-variet

We consider the problem of finding a combinatorial description of the algebraic varieties in a given birational class that admit an action of a reductive group G. This is a direct generalization of the theory of toric varieties. A general approach to
