Parkinson's disease (PD) is heterogenous in its presentation, progression and response to therapies. Genetic polymorphisms may account for some of this variability. Several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the brain-derived neurotrophic fact

Abstract Background Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare but feared complication in hand surgery. Although multimodal therapy concepts are recommended, there is only low evidence on efficacy of such approaches. Furthermore, recommendations

Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) has become a popular technique for measuring absorption of light by atmospheric aerosols in both the laboratory and field campaigns. It has low detection limits, measures suspended aerosols, and is insensitive to scat

Prevalent in approximately 20% of the worldwide human population, the rs6265 (also called ‘Val66Met’) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the gene for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a common genetic variant that can alter therape

Abstract Background Converging evidence suggests a role for microglia-mediated neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Animal models of PD can serve as a platform to investigate the role of neuroinflammation in degeneration in PD. However, d

Animal models have significantly advanced our understanding of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) has taken center stage due to its genetic connection to familial PD and localization to Lewy bodies, one pathological hallmark of PD.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:Anemia is associated with worse outcome in stroke, but the impact of anemia with intravenous thrombolysis or endovascular therapy has hardly been delineated. The aim of this study was to analyze the role of anemia on infarct ev

The microstructure of the martensite formed in Fe–Mn–Al–Ni alloys of varying composition, consisting of A2 austenite and A1-like martensite, was investigated by means of electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). While sufficiently structured EBS

Fe–Mn–Al–Ni martensite distortion gives rise to complex backscattered Kikuchi diffraction patterns which cannot be interpreted by standard procedures. Analysis of these patterns reveals that they arise from nanoscale internal twinning and tetra
