A rapid method for measuring volume distributions of human, calf and goat lymphocytes and their nuclei is described along with the type of quantitation these measurements can provide by computer analysis. The size distribution studies indicate the pr

The use of the Coulter Blood Cell Counter for counting of platelets in the blood is discussed. Threshold settings for counting separated platelets were determined and coincidence error was calculated. A method was developed for separation of platelet

Human T-lymphocytes were enumerated in 10 normal volunteers and 4 patients by a new method utilizing an automatic smearing instrument to prepare permanent fixed slides of E-rosettes. The results were compared to the commonly employed hemocytometer me

1. Intravenous commercial heparin produces a lymphocytosis in the calf. The effect is not due to the preservative commonly present in heparin. 2. The lymphocytosis is mediated to a great extent by an increased input of lymphocytes into the blood via

1. Extracorporeal x-irradiation of the circulating blood of the calf severely depletes the population of small lymphocytes within the body. 2. The number of circulating blood lymphocytes drops to a low constant level after 12 hours of extracorporeal

Summary and Conclusions1. Rutin not only was of no value in improving the survival of mice simultaneously exposed to a dose of ionizing radiation in the lethal range, but significantly increased the rate at which the mice died.2. It is considered des

A method for extracorporeal irradiation of the circulating blood is described. Extracorporeal irradiation of the blood will produce a lymphopenia promptly which persists for weeks. Heparin in high doses in the calf produces a lymphocytosis and neutro

Summary and Conclusion1. It has been demonstrated with a fair degree of certainty (0.05 > Pdiff > 0.02) that three weekly exposures of 144 r followed by a 30 day rest period increases the resistance of mice to a subsequent lethal dose of x-radiation.
