Summary Invasive anal cancers are generally successfully treated by combined chemotherapy with radiation therapy (XRT). For those patients who locally fail this intervention many are salvaged by surgery which generally results in permanent colostomy.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a tumor-ablative and function-sparing oncologic intervention. The relative simplicity of photosensitizer application followed by light activation resulting in the cytotoxic and vasculartoxic photodynamic reaction has all

This article reviews updates and provides some data related to nutritional and orthomolecular supplementation in oncology patients with an emphasis on lung cancer, a commonly diagnosed tumor with significant nutritional disturbances. Cancer and its t

We have investigated a possible correlation between the photostability and photodynamic efficacy for different photosensitizers; hematoporphyrin derivatives and chlorines. To perform such analysis, we combined the depth of necrosis (d nec) measuremen

Summary Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an innovative minimally invasive therapy that has great potential for both tumor ablation and normal tissue preservation. However, while in recent years the standards of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy have d

The vials filled with Fricke solutions were doped with increasing concentrations of Photogem®, used in photodynamic therapy. These vials were then irradiated with low-energy X-rays with doses ranging from 5 to 20 Gy. The conventional Fricke solution

Photosensitizers used in PDT suffer degradation by light. In this work, photobleaching of Photogem® (PG), Photofrin® (PF), and Photosan® (PS), hematoporphyrin derivatives, were induced by light in the presence or absence of 1% Triton X-100. The de

In this paper, we report the photodegradation of three different chlorine photosensitizers (Photoditazine®, Radachlorin®, and Foscan®). The photosensitizer degradation was analyzed by changes in the fluorescence spectrum during illumination. The r

We report the photodegradation of the three different photosensitizers derived from hematoporphyrin. In this paper we use the term phototransformation for describing the photodegradation or photobleaching process. This photodegradation alters the flu

Melanoma is the most lethal of all cutaneous malignancies and additional treatment paradigms are needed. We explored the activity of PDT on human A-375 melanoma cells in vitro with different light wavelengths using porphyrin photosensitizers. The eff
