We present ab initio calculations of the electronic and optical properties of hexagonal SiGe alloys in the lonsdaleite structure. Lattice constants and electronic band structures in excellent agreement with experiment are obtained using density-funct

Hexagonal SiGe is a direct bandgap semiconductor due to zone folding. A Lasher- Stern-Wurfel fit of the photoluminescence spectrum unambiguously confirms band- to-band recombination. The transition matrix elements are large since the translational sy

Hexagonal SiGe has been theoretically shown to feature a tunable direct bandgap in the range 0.4-0.8eV. We study arrays of site-selectively grown Si_(1-x)-Ge_x nanowires (NWs) grown using the crystal transfer method in which wurtzite GaP core NWs are

Hexagonal SiGe is shown to feature a direct bandgap with a radiative strength comparable to InP. Surprisingly, it features a temperature independent emission strength, thus promising a silicon compatible laser tunable from 1.8 to 3.5 pm.

We perform an exhaustive theoretical study of the phase diagram of Cu-I binaries, focusing on Cu-poor compositions, relevant for p-type transparent conduction. We find that the interaction between neighboring Cu vacancies is the determining factor th

We perform ab initio structure-prediction calculations of the low-energy crystal structures of two-dimensional silicon. Besides the well-known silicene and a few other allotropes proposed earlier in the literature, we discover a wealth of new phases

We use Hedin's GW framework to compute quasiparticle bands for group-II monoxides in wurtzite (wz) structure. Modern hybrid density functional theory is applied to compute the starting electronic structure for the solution of the quasiparticle equati

We studied the influence of strong electron correlation on magnetic properties of Si nanocrystals doped with the transition metal (TM) atoms Mn and Fe. Different approaches to describe exchange and correlation (XC) effects are compared within a densi

The study of the oxygen vacancy (F center) in MgO has been aggravated by the fact that the positively charged and the neutral vacancy (F+ and F0, respectively) absorb at practically identical energies. Here we apply many-body perturbation theory in t
