Low-Loss Coupling Between Single-Mode Optical Fibers with Very Different Mode-Field Diameters

Modal properties of a new-generation polarizing large-mode-area photonic crystal fiber are studied based on the S2 imaging technique. Single mode operation in the 2?m spectral range is demonstrated for coiling diameters smaller than 40cm.
