The spatially heterodyned spectrometer (SHS) is one of a class of interesting Static Fourier Transform Spectrometers (FSTS) which offers particular advantages when high spectral resolution is required over a relatively narrow design wavelength range,

We describe an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) based hyper-spectral imaging microscope system that allows real time unmixing of the combination of cellular morphology staining and multiple biomarker staining on a single microscope slide. We descr

The unwanted sensitivity of a plate pyroelectric detector to airborne acoustic noise is depends critically on the mounting conditions for the plate. We consider a plate in an isotropic acoustic pressure field oscillating at angular frequencyωd. We a

Domain-engineered bicell (parallel compensated) pyroelectric detectors were constructed from stoichiometric and congruent lithium tantalate. The variation of the pyroelectric current response of these detectors was investigated as a function of tempe

We demonstrate a monolithic bulk shear-wave acousto-optic tunable filter combining a piezoelectric transducer array and the acoustic interaction medium in a single crystal. An X-propagating acoustic longitudinal wave is excited in the "crossed-field"

Electrical characteristics of a new type of acoustic transducer have been investigated theoretically and experimentally. The agreement between calculated and measured results is excellent. The transducer consists of an acoustic superlattice, made of

We describe an experimental set-up designed for detection of impending structural failure in large-scale structures such as bridges or dams. Strain applied on any 2 metres section along a 25km standard telecommunication fibre can be detected. We demo

We demonstrate the feasibility of using in-fibre Bragg gratings to measure MHz acoustic fields and temperature simultaneously. We achieved a noise-limited pressure resolution of ˜4.5×10-4 Atm/vHz and a temperature resolution of 0.2°C.

Lead(II) bromide and chloride have been purified by zone refinement and these purified products are grown into large device quality single crystals by the Bridgman—Stockbarger technique. Cracking on cooling is observed especially in the cae of lead

We report the application of in situ ellipsometry to monitor the growth by RF reactive sputtering of zinc oxide thin film piezoelectric transducers on silicon substrates. To establish the effect of substrate temperature on film quality and piezoelect
