The potential effect of stress on the LIDT of MLD coatings is investigated. No significant variations are observed, indicating the LIDT fluctuation with the environment are not due to stress but refractive index variations.

In the framework of high-power lasers, surface defects on optics can generate strong light intensification and induce damage sites on downstream optics. To evaluate this intensification during high-energy laser shots, a three-step method is proposed.

The Laser MegaJoule (LMJ) is a high-power laser dedicated to laser-plasma experiments. At the beginning of the project in the mid-1990s, an optical metrology laboratory was created at CEA to help accomplish all the steps in the construction of this l

Specification of visual defects (scratch and digs) on optics used in high-power laser facilities has always been a headache. Indeed, the wave degradation and the ensuing laser performances losses with regard to focal spot or downstream laser induced

At the interface between vacuum and air, optical windows must keep their optical properties, despite being subjected to mechanical stress. In this Letter, we investigate the impact of such stress on the laser-induced damage of fused silica windows at

This paper presents recent studies on the mechanical support system of Laser MegaJoule large dimension optical components. The dimensions of these optical components and their orientation resulted in considerable distortions due to gravity. An origin

The behaviour of antireflective coatings of LIL Pockels cells is discussed. Gas-discharge plasma environments turn out to be severe conditions for sol-gel coatings of KDP crystal. Typical damaged Sol-Gel and an alternative coating are presented.

Laser damage at 3Z , 351 nm, of fused silica optical components is a major concern for LMJ maintenance. Indeed, even a low density of damage sites is unacceptable due to the exponential growth of surface damage with a series of laser shots. A techniq
