A new hohlraum geometry or “Frustraum” is proposed that may enable 2–3× higher capsule absorbed x-ray energy than for nominally sized capsules in standard cylinders. The Frustraum geometry comprises two truncated conical halves (or “frusta

The physical and numerical difficulties associated with inadequate boundary resolution in finite differencing applications is alleviated by the embedded curve boundary (ECB) method. The use of this technique in three-dimensional micromagnetic simulat

We present the quantal dynamics of electronic wave packets in the hydrogen atom in the presence of circularly polarized microwave and magnetic fields in regions of classical stability. Whereas wave packets may disperse without the stabilizing influen

The National Ignition Facility has been used to compress deuterium-tritium to an average areal density of ~1.0±0.1 g cm(-2), which is 67% of the ignition requirement. These conditions were obtained using 192 laser beams with total energy of 1-1.6 MJ

We derive a full field solution for Laguerre–Gaussian beams consistent with the Helmholtz equation using the angular spectrum method. Field components are presented as an order expansion in the ratio of the wavelength to the beam waist, f=λ/(2πw0

The recently developed Residuum method [Tal-Ezer, Kosloff, and Cerjan, J. Comput. Phys. 100, 179 (1992)], a Krylov subspace technique with variable time-step integration for the solution of the time-dependent Schroedinger equation, is applied to the

A large giant magnetoresistance (GMR) value of 7.5% has been measured in simple NiFeCo(1)/Cu/NiFeCo(2) sandwich films grown on a 30 /spl Aring/ Cr seed layer. This spin-valve GMR effect is consistent with the differential switching of the two NiFeCo
