What are the signatures of the onset of catastrophe? Here we present the rich system physics characterizing the stochasticity driven transition from homeostasis to breakdown in an experimentally motivated and analytically tractable minimal model. Rec

Contractile cytoskeletal structures such as fine actomyosin meshworks and stress fibers are essential force-generators for mechanical phenomena in live cells, including motility, morphogenesis, and mechanosensing. While there have been many studies o

We study a percolation model with restrictions on the opening of sites on the square lattice. In this model, each site $s \in \mathbb{Z}^{2}$ starts closed and an attempt to open it occurs at time $t=t_s$, where $(t_s)_{s \in \mathbb{Z}^2}$ is a sequ

Organisms maintain the status quo, holding key physiological variables constant to within an acceptable tolerance, and yet adapt with precision and plasticity to dynamic changes in externalities. What organizational principles ensure such exquisite y

Next-generation nano and quantum devices have increasingly complex 3D structure. As the dimensions of these devices shrink to the nanoscale, their performance is often governed by interface quality or precise chemical or dopant composition. Here we p

In the physiology of oxygen-hemoglobin binding, an important role is played by the influence of $\text{H}^+$ and $\text{CO}_2$ on the affinity of hemoglobin for $\text{O}_2$. Here we extend the allosteric model of hemoglobin to include these effects.

The interior of a living cell is an active, fluctuating, and crowded environment. Yet, it maintains a high level of coherent organization, which is readily apparent in the intracellular transport network. Membrane-bound compartments called endosomes
