Abstract Two alleles (G1 and G2) of the apolipoprotein 1 gene (APOL1) predispose people of African descent to developing or accelerating the course of certain types of kidney disease. Population studies to determine the frequency of the G1 and G2 all

Trypanosoma cruzi is a parasite of the order Kinetoplastida that causesChagas disease. A low level of allele divergence is observed in this organism. Although such high levels of homozygosity are not expected in an organism without sexual reproductio

Leishmaniasis is a neglected disease endemic in five continents. It is a severe disease that may lead to death, and its early detection is important to avoid severe damage to affected individuals. Molecular methods to detect Leishmania are considered

Using a functional complementation strategy, we have isolated a Schistosoma mansoni cDNA that complemented Escherichia coli mutant strains which are defective in the DNA base excision repair pathway. This cDNA partially complemented the MMS-sensitive

The Rad51 gene encodes a highly conserved enzyme involved in DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair and recombination processes. We cloned and characterized the Rad51 gene from Trypanosoma cruzi, the protozoan parasite that causes Chagas disease. This

Background : Molecular biological methods have become increasingly relevant to the diagnosis and control of infectious diseases, such as leishmaniasis. Since various factors may affect the sensitivity of PCR assays, including DNA yield and purity, an
