A small optical device has been constructed to determine aerosol total area concentrations from angular scattering. Particles in the open sample volume are irradiated by a pulsed laser diode. Radiation scattered at angles between 15° and 35° is det

In two previous papers [8, 9] a theory has been developed for the phenomenon of selflocking in a pressure broadened three mode He-Ne laser. Using this phenomenon, a new method of measuring the frequency stability of another laser is presented. Actual

Comparing lidar-derived backscatter coefficients with those inferred from simultaneously measured particle size distributions, discrepancies were observed. To understand the origin of these discrepancies, a systematic study was undertaken on the infl

Vertical structure information can be acquired by performing lidar measurements under positive elevation angles. [1-9]. Problems are encountered in inverting these data because a relation between extinction and backscatter is required in order to obt

An active imaging system has been developed that utilizes a scanned Nd-YAG laser beam for target illumination. Images obtained at distances up to 1.5 km using different signal processing methods are shown. A new technique of generating a 3-D display
