During the last decade the detailed analysis of several observables and especially of electron scattering data has shown conclusively the presence of short-range nucleon correlations. As a result the degree to which the shape and amplitude of a corre

In this article we address the physical basis of the deviation of hadron shapes from spherical symmetry (non-spherical amplitudes) with focus on the nucleon and $\Delta$. An overview of both the experimental methods and results and the current theore

A novel method for extracting multipole amplitudes in the nucleon resonance region from electroproduction data is presented. The method is based on statistical concepts and it relies heavily on Monte Carlo and simulation techniques; it produces preci

The mean square polarizability radii of the proton have been measured for the first time in a virtual-Compton-scattering experiment performed at the MIT-Bates out-of-plane scattering facility. Response functions and polarizabilities obtained from a d

The possibility of nucleon deformation raised more than 20 years ago 1 still remains an open one. The presence of resonant quadrupole amplitudes in the transition to the only isolated excited state of the nucleon is regarded as the definitive signatu

High-precision 1H(e,e'p)pi(0) measurements at Q2 = 0.126 (GeV/c)2 are reported, which allow the determination of quadrupole amplitudes in the gamma*N--Delta transition; they simultaneously test the reliability of electroproduction models. The derived
