In this article, we discuss recent advances in ultra-short pulse generation with ytterbium-doped fiber lasers. We discuss the fundamental properties and technical challenges of mode-locked single-mode fiber lasers operating in the 1-μm range, and th

We have used a fully vectorial model based on two coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations to study mode locking and pulse generation initiated and stabilized by nonlinear polarization evolution in a stretched pulse, double-clad, Yb-doped, fiber laser

Le premier laser a fibre dope aux ions de terres rares fonctionna au tout debut des annees 60. Il fournissait quelques milliwatts autour de 1 μm. Les decades suivantes virent tres peu d'ameliorations tant du cote des laboratoires que du point de vue

We report the generation of self-similar highly stable femtosecond pulses from an ytterbium-doped double-clad fiber laser. Positively chirped parabolic pulses with 6.4-ps duration and more than 3.2-nJ energy are obtained. These pulses are extra-cavit

We report on an all-normal dispersion passively mode-locked fiber laser based on an ytterbium-doped largemode- area microstructure fiber and featuring high-energy ultra-short pulses. Mode-locking was achieved with a high modulation depth semiconducto

We report on a passively mode-locked laser based on a large-mode-area ytterbium-doped microstructure fiber. The laser delivers 3.3 W of average power at 46 MHz repetition rate. These pulses are extra-cavity dechirped to 516 fs.

To generate ultrashort pulses with higher energy in passively mode-locked fiber lasers, several groups have recently focused on the development of laser cavities operating in normal path-averaged dispersion, with a view to achieve wave-breaking-free
