A quadrature phase-shift detection system for interferometry has been conceptualized and evaluated. The main components, a microcontroller and two photodetectors, make a versatile low-cost detection system for displacement measurements or more genera

We report the development of a specialty optical fiber preform fabrication system based on carbon monoxide (CO) laser heating. The laser heating is accomplished via a single-beam optical arrangement integrated into a rotating glass lathe. The CO lase

Silicon core fibers are a promising candidate for optoelectronic and photonic applications. Fabrication and post-processing of those fibers is thus far done without precise knowledge of the processing temperatures. Here, a simple technique is present

Silicon core optical fibres have been fabricated using an experimental draw tower based on a CO laser furnace. Fabricated fibres have achieved a submicron core size and shown a record low loss of 0.1 dBcm.

Anti-resonant guiding negative curvature hollow core fiber operating at a wavelength of 1064 nm is used in the cavity of an ytterbium (Yb3+) mode-locked fiber laser to increase cavity length without increasing the nonlinear phase shift. Repetition ra

We investigate self-phase modulation in 28m of negative curvature anti-resonant hollow-core fiber pressurized with argon. A 9.6ps pulse is spectrally broadened to 7.6nm, at 20bar of pressure, and compressed to 420fs with 8μJ output energy.
